There are many good reasons for phosphorus recycling from sewage sludge. Phosphorus is one of the most important nutrients for plants. The essential element is responsible for the growth of the roots, the early plant growth as well as the formation of the flowers and fruits. According to the German Federal Ministry of the Environment, global phosphorus demand is around 190t per year. Rising trend. However, the phosphorus ressources of this earth are finite, the degradation usually takes place in politically unstable countries under environmentally damaging conditions. 

This is why we have developed a recycling process that protects both, environment and our phosphorus resources.

  • Due to the selected temperature level in the PYREG® reactors the phosphorus in the final product grants a high plant availability, in contrast to ashes resulting from conventional mono-incineration systems, burning the sludge at temperatures above 700°C. Supplementary costly pulping of the phosphorus is not necessary.
  • The phosphorus fertilizer produced does not contain germs, hormones, residuals of pharmaceuticals, micro-plastic parts etc.
  • In the course of the running operation, supply of external energy is not necessary. Moreover up to 150 kWth may become available, to be used for dryers installed upstream.
  • Cost for storage or disposal of resulting substances does not have to be expected. The phosphorus substrate produced can directly be marketed in fertilizer industries.
